Transition
Combat always had a lot of information to track during a match. So it was important that the background stayed simple and added as little possible distractions.
To keep with the surreal feeling with the branches on the outside of the canopy we built it full and used spherical normals to fake it and keep parallax.
As a long time fan of Samurai Jack this was an absolute dream to have worked on. Allan Huang and I got to tackle this map together. I was responsible for the initial block-out, background, lighting, and initial material set ups for all versions of the map. I worked with design and VFX to coordinate their contributions as well. I handled the optimization for the map and held everyone that worked on it to a more aggressive optimization workflow from the very start of the map due to the map being 2 maps in one.
